Happy Valentine’s Day!
If you read yesterday’s post you may have realized that our wedding anniversary is the day before Valentine’s Day. If you did some math you may have figured out that we were married on Friday, February 13th, 1987.
Yeah. On Friday the 13th.
We needed to get married quickly because I had already been stationed in Germany long enough that I needed a “good reason” to extend my tour even longer. Irreversible orders to go back to the states were imminent. I didn’t want to go back – stateside duty sucked and I didn’t want to leave Dagmar. Marriage was one of the few good reasons to stay. So we ended up getting married sooner than we would have otherwise.
Since we were young, poor, and impulsive, a ceremony at city hall was the obvious option. Also, since we were young, poor, and impulsive, Valentine’s Day was a logical day.
But German bureaucrats don’t work on Saturdays. So, there you go!
Have a great weekend!
